January 2013 Toddler Newsletter

Hello Toddler Families!

Welcome Back!

We are well into the month of January and the toddlers have settled back into routine!

We have added some new work to our classroom and the children have been enjoying lessons.  It is amazing to see the level of concentration developing and the ability for the children to focus on a task for a longer period of time.  Some of the new work includes ‘Opening and Closing”, “nuts and bolts”, “lock and key”.  All of these activities develop concentration and refine the fine motor muscles in the child’s hand.  We also have new nomenclature cards in our language area. These cards contain real pictures of different objects and develop and enhance the child’s vocabulary.

The toddlers have also been involved in food preparation activities for our community snack (peeling and slicing cucumber, cubing melon, and spreading cream cheese on bagels).  As the term continues, the toddlers will be baking

The children have been enjoying their time outdoors.  The children like to make tracks in the fresh snow and listen to the crunching sound of their feet.  We have been using many of our large muscles to walk and climb on the large snow banks.  We have also had many rides on our toboggan that Judith has so kindly let us borrow.

We would like to invite you to sign up for an observation in the toddler room.  This is a block of time (about 15 minutes) for you to come into the class and watch your child.  If you would like to come and observe, please speak to me and we will set up a time.

Just a few reminders:

Please remember that there are other tenants in the building.  Please keep your child in the main lobby area when waiting for school to begin in the morning.

Outdoor Time – the forecast says that this coming week is going to be VERY cold! We will not be taking the children outdoors if the temperature dips below -15 degrees celsius.  Please make sure your child has appropriate clothing for our outdoor activity time.

Upcoming Dates:

Friday, February 15 and Monday, February 18 – Mid-Term+Family Day Break – No school

Friday, March 1 – Last day of school before March Break

Monday, March 18 – Back to school

Thank you for taking the time to read this newsletter.  If you have any comments or questions, I am always by phone, e-mail or after school.
