The children are now starting the day with individual work time. This is a time when the child is free to explore the classroom materials, and can make individual work choices. The child may decide to work alone on an activity, or work with a material that allows others to work with him/her. I am always observing the children and give lessons as they become curious. The lessons come from all areas of the classroom including: Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Math, and Culture. We are working towards a three-hour work period.
The children have been very interested in our nature tray this week. The nature tray contains various items from nature and a magnifying glass. As well, science experiments can be placed on the tray. This activity is presented in order to cultivate and inspire a love of nature. Thank you to Sierra’s mom for bringing a rather large cone, and some tree fungus. We are always happy to have donations for our nature tray!
We continued reading books from Eric Carle this week. The children wanted to read, “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?” each day. They enjoyed the beautiful colours in the book. The children are welcome to return their book bags and exchange books at any time.
I have been following the children with their interest in snow. It has been a very snowy week! We used molding clay and rolled three balls (spheres) to create a snowman. They decorated the snowman with various items. The children were also introduced in the oil pastel work. We will continue working with the pastels over the next month.
This is our last week before the March Break. The March Break starts on Saturday, March 3rd. The children resume class on Monday, March 27th.
Have a wonderful week,
